Family Lifestyle Photography

2020 was a mess for most of us! Last year had me thinking a lot about what is important to me. I love photography, obviously, and I love doing it as a business. But photography is also a way for me to have a creative outlet, and capture memories of my children that will be treasured for years. Candid family lifestyle photography not only tells stories but captures emotions.

In 2010 I was struggling in motherhood with 2 little children, I was not sure what I was doing and I felt I had lost a part of me, you know the April part of me. I was in total mom mode and drowning. Where did the free spirit, athletic and fun person go?

Admittedly, my creative outlet was also a way to take adorable pictures of my children because I am obsessed with them. But it helped evolve something inside me that was really healing. So, I started a 365 project which means I took a picture a day for a year! I am so proud that I accomplished my goal, and in the process I really learned how to use my camera and connect to my children.

It’s hilarious though, looking back on those pictures and seeing my babies and my baby photography skills. If you are curious here is my little blogspot blog I used and flickr! This was before instagram and fb groups became a big thing ( I am getting old, ha!) And here are a few of my other attempts at personal photography projects through the past ten years.

After dealing with 2020, I wanted to take that same spirit of my 2010 project and try again. This time using more advanced photography skills and storytelling through images after taking an amazing class from Jonas Peterson. So here is to 2021 and some of my images so far!

Are you interested in starting your own 365 project? Please join me, I have a free Facebook group for people to share their images, stay accountable and offer free photography tips. You do not need to have a DSLR or a “big girl camera” as I lovingly call it. Phone camera or other digital camera is fine! Join my 365 facebook group here! Or follow along on INSTAGRAM
